Responding to an online video depicting him calling for the executive board of troubled sovereign development fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), Deputhy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has asserted that has been his consistent (personal) view for a while now, and should not be a revelation.
“It was my personal view that I made in a closed-door meeting, in a political course organised by the training bureau. For me, it was my personal view so that my political leader friends can better understand [the issue].
“This is not a new thing. I have spoken the same thing outside,” he said outside Parliament today, as quoted by The Malay Mail Online‘s Zurairi AR.
The seven-minute video, reportedly shot at an UMNO division training session in Janda Baik, Pahang, depicts the UMNO deputy president calling for decisive action on the people on the hook for 1MDB’s many alleged failings and shady shenanigans.
“If this was my company, and I wake up in the morning to find out strange things have been happening in it, and I have to pay monthly interest payments of 100 to 200 milion ringgit … I can’t think of any company in the world who would put up with that.
“Buang la! Not only fire them (1MDB’s board of directors), but call the police to invrestigate them. Take serious action, because if we don’t, this is what will drag us (UMNO) down,” he said.
Muhyiddin’s boss, Prime Minister Najib Razak, also serves as Finance Minister (whose ministry wholly owns 1MDB) and sits as the chair of 1MDB’s board of advisers.
