Donating blood might become part of every police officer’s KPI

As though it’s enough that keeping the peace and putting themselves in harm’s way is already part of their job description, Malaysia’s police officers might have another solemn duty to carry out in the name of King, Country, and People: donating blood.

The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is mulling making blood donations a part of every police officer’s Key Performance Index (KPI), the metric by which a law enforcement officer’s chances for promotion (or just keeping their job) is measured.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim told Sinar Harian that the PDRM “wants to ensure” that the nation’s blood banks are well-stocked.

“It’s a gesture of goodwill and gratitude on our part for the community,” he said yesterday.

KPI or not, Noor Rashid pledged to increase the percentage of police officers nationwide who register as blood donors.

“I want to keep encouraging my fellow officers to donate blood. If any of them are nervous or afraid, I’m quite certain they can overcome those fears.”
