Nasi lemak is a dish that unites all Malaysians, we eat it at any time of the day and we can all agree nobody makes it better than us (sorry Singapore!). However, some nasi lemak are more special than others – so it seems.

Recently, a woman and a man at Taman Tun Dr Ismail were caught on camera allegedly threatening a nasi lemak seller and her family for selling the same dish at her stall which was located a few hundred metres away from theirs.

In a video recorded by the nasi lemak seller, the duo can be heard accusing them of messing with their business sales. One of them even said, “I don’t want to see you selling nasi lemak at this spot tomorrow!”

The video went viral after Twitter user @emrhqm posted it yesterday. It has gained more than a million views and over fourteen thousand retweets at the time of writing.

Most of us would have replied with a standard “think this your father’s road ah?” but the nasi lemak seller and her family maintained their cool for the most part while threats were hurled at them.

“The issue is right now, you are selling the same thing I am selling! The local council (DBKL) already asked us the other day.”

“Tomorrow I don’t want to see this nasi lemak here okay, understand? DBKL told you right? They said I have authority here,” the woman in the black hijab said.

Unable to stand the rebuke, the seller also raised her voice, asking the individual to return to her stall site.

“Ok fine, I will close these two shops, that’s the end of the story. Now, you go back to your shop because I am not even bothering you,” the lady said adding that she had opened the stall there based on a customer’s request.

To this, the angry woman replied, “Don’t give excuses! I open my stall at 8am every day and tomorrow I don’t want to see you selling nasi lemak. You wanna do business, that’s up to you because I don’t disturb other people’s business!”

“Don’t be like this please aunty, everyone’s rezeki (sustenance) is different. Don’t be like this. I come here and all of a sudden you’re screaming at me,” the Nasi Lemak seller replied.

It is understood that the trader has been reprimanded by the City Hall several times regarding the issue, causing the duo to be dissatisfied.

The viral video of the dispute lasting more than three minutes gained a lot of attention after it went viral on social media. Users slammed the two individuals in question whom they thought acted inappropriately as they believe that everyone’s rezeki is different even if the two stalls were right next to each other.
