Having a sweet ride is all good, but if you want to stand out you’ll have to go the extra mile. In the case of getting an exclusive “PATRIOT 1” license plate for your Satria Neo, that extra mile will cost you at least RM1 million.
In an effort to “foster patriotism and unity among the multiracial Malaysian society”, NGO The Malaysian National Patriot Foundation (YPNM) is auctioning off special PATRIOT license plates, with the full authority of the Road Transport Department (RTD) backing it up.
The new organisation is also conducting the public auction to bolster its own operational funds, because of course it is.
To be eligible to bid for one of the 9,999 PATRIOT plates, members of the public have to register as a YPNM volunteer and pony up a 20% deposit of the bidding price.
The costliest of the limited edition plates is PATRIOT 1, the bidding for which starts at a cool RM1 million.
The plates are divided into five categories, with the most expensive being Perdana (Grand), followed by Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Premium.
Platinum numbers are between RM20,000 and RM50,000, Gold starts at RM20,000, Silver RM5,000, Bronze RM2,000 and Premium RM1,000.
The Malay Mail Online reports that other highly-coveted plate numbers, namely all the single-digit plates plus the ong-some 88, 888, and 888 plates, have starting bids ranging from RM150,000 to RM580,000 each.
If you want the Malaysian equivalent of a Captain Americamobile (Captain America doesn’t really have a mobile, right?) get ready to shell out some serious cash.
