Remember a couple of days ago, photos showing a 4-meter king cobra slithering out of a flat unit in Bukit Mertajam went viral online? Initially, residents thought that the snake was a pet and was kept in a cage in one of the units.
As it turns out, it’s not a pet.

The snake charmer who bagged the snake, 25-year-old Mohammad Izani Ramli, told The Star Online that he believes it was a wild snake as snakes that are kept as pets usually have scars on their mouths and their skin are clean.
“But the cobra that we caught had no scars on its mouth and there was some dirt on its skin. It also had a foul smell,” he was quoted as saying.
Izani, together with his friend Muhamad Sufian Zainol Abidin, were called in to tame the reptile after several residents spotted it scaling a five-storey flat building in Taman Pauh Jaya on Monday.
The snake was then handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).
The couple living in the third floor unit — Abdullah Che Soh, 59, and his wife Ramlah Majid, 56 — told the news portal that they were both in the bedroom when the snake slithered in through an open window.
“It was about 9am and I was taking a rest while smoking when Ramlah suddenly started screaming and pointing towards the window.
“The king cobra was crawling down from the window. I immediately dragged Ramlah out of the room and we stood at the door to shoo it away.
“It then turned back and went out through the same window. We were so shaken that we slept in the living room that night,” Abdullah was quoted as saying.
So, yes people; snakes do climb buildings now.
