Digi Telecommunications wants to play its role in protecting families and children — it is now offering free calls to two 24-hour helplines.
Partnering with the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry and and Childline Malaysia, the telco provider will allow access at no cost to Talian Nur (for early intervention for victims of domestic violence and natural disasters) and Childline 15999 (a confidential helpline for youngsters to seek information, share feelings and get needed help).
This was an extension to a recent programme by CyberSecurity Malaysia called “CyberSAFE in Schools” which revealed that not many children knew of support helplines available to them in the event of a bad online experience.
“With the increasing rate of cybercrimes particularly targeting children, we want to make sure that they are adequately protected against possible danger on the net. This includes providing easy access to ways in which they can seek help,” Digi’s Project Manager for Safe Internet Philip Ling said in a statement.
Effective immediately, affected families – especially children, can now make free calls to these hotlines from all Digi prepaid and postpaid numbers.
