A man arrested for impersonating a PDRM Assistant Superintendent (ASP) said posing as a cop made it easy for him to score with the ladies.
The suspect, aged 31, was apprehended in Brickfields at 5am on January 20, and was found with a police officers uniform with a complete set of ASP rank badges and insignias.
Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Azlee Abdullah told Harian Metro‘s Fardy Bungga, the suspect was arrested as he was entering the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) building at Brickfields police headquarters.
Apparently, the conman tried to pass off as a police officer when encountering suspicious officers there.
“The suspect failed to produce a valid police authority card when asked to identify himself,” Muhammad Azlee said.
“When he did produce some ID, it was in the form of a discontinued police driver’s license that we believe was also forged.”
Later checks on the suspect’s Perodua Myvi revealed a complete police officer’s uniform. Also found were a blue jacket and a yello raincoat emblazoned with PDRM insignias.
“Follow-up investigations show that there had been three previous police reports filed over cases of assumed identity and fraud linked to the suspect,” Muhammad Azlee said.
He added that the suspect was a perfume salesman who would dress up as a cop to seduce women.
