Deputy Home Minister: investigating Dr Mahathir doesn’t mean arresting Dr Mahathir

Continuing the Federal Government’s kid-gloves approach to handling sedition police reports on former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the Deputy Home Minister strove to clarify today that an investigation on Dr M does not necessarily mean his arrest.

Deputy minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar did say, however, the results of the investigation would prove instrumental in deciding whether there was a case against Mahathir or not.

“Not all investigation would result in an arrest. Investigations determine if the individual in the report is guilty or not,” he told Astro Awani.

Last week, Pakatan Rakyat-aligned NGO Solidariti Anak-Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) lodged multiple police reports across the country, accusing Mahathir of having published seditious statements on his personal blog www.chedet.cc in the form of criticisms and questions on the Najib administration.

Mahathir’s recent blog posts have been antagonistic towards his successor, raising questions about Najib’s role in the Altantuya Sharibuu murder, the financial troubles plaguing sovereign development fund 1MDB, and the source of Najib’s allegedly vast personal wealth.
