Yesterday’s news that drone operators may need a license to operate their flying cameras of terror and buzz was met with concern by tech-loving uncles and wedding photographers alike.
Breathe a collective sigh of relief: The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has now said that not all drone operators or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) will need approval from the department.
The DCA is now clarifying that any person operating a drone that is less than 20kg, who “is satisfied that the flight can safely be made” is free to go along their merry way and make aerial-view magic.
Nothing like leaving something to everyone’s best judgement.
The department did clarify that drones are not allowed to fly in Class A, B, C or G airspace, nor around any aerodrome without prior permission from the DCA.
DCA says no Class A, B, C or G; Coconuts KL says that Class D, E and F are still yours without permission, but we’re just glass half-full types over here.
