Dengue: Construction sites that breed mosquitoes ordered to shut down

Construction sites that double as mosquito breeding grounds have been ordered to shut operations temporarily.

As dengue cases spike nationwide — in Selangor alone, an increase of 66 per cent compared to last year — the Health Ministry appears to be getting tough.

The New Straits Times reports that Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam has ordered developers found flouting the rules to shut down for two weeks.

“We are now taking tougher actions against those allowed their premises to be mosquito breed sites and prepared also to take legal actions against them too,” he told the NST today.

So far, 45 developers have been dragged to court while in Klang, 21 sites have been found to be breeding mosquitoes.
