After eight years of constant harrassment from loan sharks, a father has finally decided that his son is beyond help – so he gave him hell notes to settle his gambling debts.
According to a report by The Star Online, the 60-year-old businessman, who only wanted to be known as Lee, has reportedly bailed his son out from loan sharks twice due to his gambling habits, but when he came home to ask for money the third time, the man decided that enough is enough.
“For eight years I did my duty as a parent. Any parent has to help his son. But after eight years you have to cut off.
“I want to tell the Ah Long, don’t disturb us anymore. I am sick and I have to take care of myself. Don’t disturb us anymore,” he told a press conference held at the MCA Public Services and Complaints department on Monday.
Lee told reporters that his son 28-year-old son Ken first came to him in 2009 to ask him to settle a RM150,000 debt he had reportedly borrowed from six loan sharks.
Lee cleared the debt, and he even sent Ken to Australia to pursue a degree in hopes that it would give him a better future.
But Ken reportedly came home in 2013 with a graduation ‘gift’: a RM40,000 loan shark debt, claiming that he used the money for business.
When Ken begged Lee – again! – to settle a RM110,000 debt last month, that was the final straw that broke the camel’s back.
“I don’t have anymore money. I only have hell bank notes. If the Ah Long still want to lend money to my son and then try and get it from me, I don’t have anymore,” Lee was quoted as saying.
According to Lee, Ken would often disappear when he’s in trouble with the loan sharks, leaving his family to deal with the harrassment.
Over the years, Lee claimed that loan sharks had coated his house in Subang Jaya with red paint numerous times and would camp outside his house, demanding for money. Flyers with Ken’s face were also reportedly distributed to neighbours.
Unable to stand the harrassment any longer, Lee and Ken sought the help of MCA department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong to put an end to the ordeal.
And that was when Lee gave Ken a stack of hell money.
“I’ve been doing this for 30 years and even I was shocked.
“I asked him why do you keep doing this to your family. Ken said, ‘I can only become rich when I gamble. Hopefully one day I can win and pay back all the money’. But look at what he has done,” Chong was quoted as saying.
