There was some good news for the Malaysian student who was injured in the Bastille Day attack in Nice, France last week.
News portal Channel NewsAsia reported that Esmond Chuah, a third-year student from Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), has shown no signs of of internal bleeding or neurological damage, and the critical period for him has passed.
In a media statement released by th university on Tuesday, cited by Channel NewsAsia, doctors are currently reviewing Esmond’s medical test results.
Esmond reportedly suffered a fractured back in the attack.
His father, Chuah Tze Leng, said his son also suffered from trauma in his lungs and stomach in a Facebook posting on July 15.
“He is okay but hospitalised due to a fracture at his back. He was hit by the side of the white truck, which carried firearms and grenades and luckily that did not explode.
“Hospital CT scan also showed trauma in his lung and stomach,” he wrote.
The news portal added that Esmond would be repatriated only after the hospital has cleared him for travel.
Esmond was reported to be among 12 SUTD students who were in Nice for a three-week summer programme which began on July 3.
