The Singaporean creator of the “Malaysia Nudist Sports Games” video which recently went viral on local social networks has come forward to offer his take on what the entire event was all about – and sure enough, it wasn’t about sex at all.
Albert Yam, a self-proclaimed “naturist” who claims to have lived the lifestyle for the past 25 years, stressed that naturism, or nudism, does not prescribe going naked for sexual reasons.
During an interview with The Malay Mail Online Clara Chooi, Yam stressed, “Purely nudism… No sex! We have given talks in Thailand and Singapore… We all are true nudist.”
Yam also confirmed that he changed the privacy settings for the video on the Vimeo page hosting it, saying the unwanted attention it was getting from the media prompted him to act to protect his friends. The video was accessible to the public for two months before it went viral earlier this week.
Already, the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is conducting investigations into the event under Section 509 of the Penal Code, for using words or gestures intended to insult the modesty of a person. A conviction under the charge carries a five-year jail term, or a fine, or both.
Seven of the 15 participants of the event have been identified as Malaysians, while the rest are comprised of four Singaporeans, two Myanmar nationals, a Filipino and an Indian national.
Perkasa’s Penang chapter has also called for the banning of any foreign nationals involved in the event from entry into Malaysia, and called for police action to prevent future occurences.
Yam insisted that the event depicted in the video was the first and only such programme organised in Malaysia.
“Only this big nude event… one time only,” he said.
Asked if he was aware of Malaysian laws regarding nudity in public, he said: “No… if the beach is quiet and seclusive, it is okay to go nude… as long as I don’t offend people.”
He added: “Law are man-made one… if good and benefit to people, law should change”.
