Crane rolls down slope and crashes into car, house in PJ

A runaway crane crashed into a car in Section 17, Petaling Jaya this morning, injuring one man.

The Star Online reports that the crane was move up a slope around 9.34am when its engine stalled, leading to a subsequent brake failure.

“The crane started moving backwards down the slope, crashing into a car and a house,” SS2 Damansara Fire and Rescue Department officer Mustada Silong was quoted as saying.

Driver of the car, a 59-year-old man, sustained minor injuries (phew!) and received treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. His wife escaped unhurt.

Giam Wei Li, 31, told The Star that her family has resided in the house for more than three decades and renovations were done just two years ago.

“We were about to go out for breakfast when I heard a loud bang. I then found a car underneath a crane, and my wall and storeroom destroyed. Thankfully we weren’t inside the storeroom doing washing,” she was quoted as saying.
