A crane fell yesterday evening, at a facility in the Kg Acheh industrial neighbourhood of Sitiawan, killing two local workers and injuring another.

According to a Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman, at 4:58 p.m. they were alerted to a crane collapse that had claimed the lives of Abdul Rajim Hasmki, 33, and Maiyden Asibin, 29, and injured Mosed Alinid, 34.

“A heavy industrial crane had collapsed during dismantling that resulted in three victims being trapped,” the spokesman said in a statement last night.

When rescuers arrived on the scene, they used specialised equipment and crane support to remove the victims.

The injured individual was taken to medical personnel for further treatment, while the remains of the deceased were turned over to police, according to the spokesman, who also noted that the operation ended around 10:55 p.m.
