Watch your back, Proton Saga; there’s a new competitor in town.
A photo of what appears to be a yet to be named Perodua sedan has been making its round on social media.
The photo, which was allegedly taken at a Perodua plant, was first uploaded on the popular Low Yat Forum by one of its users.

Although the local carmaker has kept a pretty low profile regarding the sedan, that didn’t stop local motoring sites from speculating about its under-the-hood specifications based on industry rumours and educated guesses.
For one, the sedan, which was codenamed D63D, was rumoured to be based on the Perodua Axia’s platform and will very likely be powered by the carmaker’s 1.0- and 1.3-litre engines.
In fact, there were also rumours floating around saying that the D63D will use the same 1.3- and 1.5-litre engine as the current Toyota Avanza.
Talk of Perodua launching its very own sedan to rival the Proton Saga has been going on for some time now, and the picture – if it’s real, that is – seems to validate Perodua’s commitment of taking a bite at the local sedan maket currently dominated by Proton.
But for now, everything is based on speculation but according to several unconfirmed reports, the sedan is expected to be launched some time late 2016 or early 2017.
