The cost of being a sugar daddy in Malaysia starts at RM400 a month

If you’ve ever wanted to deal with your middle-life crisis in as obnoxious a manner as possible, good news: it’s not that expensive to set yourself up as a pretty young thing’s sugar daddy.

In fact, you can get in on a budget package for as little as RM400 a month.

An in-depth piece by The Star‘s R.AGE supplement has uncovered a disturbing new trend among young Malaysian women – to maintain a high-society lifestyle of dinner parties and the latest fashions, and to keep mounting college fees at bay, some girls are putting their companionship – and sexual favours – up for lease.

From a university student offering her time and TLC for RM400 a month, to a RM500-per-dinner-date debutante for hire, these young ladies are peddling themselves to prospective sugar daddies through online dating sites and classifieds.

Whereas women in the past would have to delve into the seedy industry of becoming a Guest Relations Officer (GRO) to look for potential sugar daddies, having an online presence and keen social networking skills today can get the job done more safely and effectively.

The R.AGE report notes that 50% of sugar babies featured on one local matchmaking website are college students – in 2006, that percentage stood at only 20%.
