Perak police reportedly shot dead a man believed to be a gang leader at the Ipoh-Lumut Highway last night.
According to The Star Online, the 24-year-old suspect had been riding on the highway on his Honda EX5 motorcycle when police found him.
“They introduced themselves as policemen with the intention to nab the suspect, but the suspect suddenly fired a few shots in their general direction,” state deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan was quoted as saying.
“When trying to retaliate, the police fired back. A bullet hit the suspect in the stomach, and he collapsed right away,” he was quoted further.
Police also picked up two more gang members, the portal reports — two men aged 26 and 33 — at their homes in Ipoh and Batu Gajah.
The gang was reportedly linked to several cases including robbery, break-ins and violent crimes.
