Two foreign women who were accused of trying to kidnap a child at an amusement park in Genting Highlands earlier this week were detained by police yesterday to assist in investigations.
In a statement, Bentong district police chief Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the suspects, aged 42 and 50, were arrested at approximately 11:30 am, two days after the father of the child lodged a police report.
Zaiham Mohd said the case is being looked into in accordance with Section 363/511 of the Penal Code, which makes kidnapping punishable by up to seven years in jail or a fine, depending on the circumstances.
Previously, a video went viral on Tiktok cautioning people who bring their kids to Genting about the risk of kidnapping. The video shows the two women who allegedly tried to kidnap a child at the Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park in Resorts World Genting.
The incident occurred when a mother and her young child were suddenly accosted by two unknown women while she was waiting for her husband to got off of a roller coaster.
The suspicious situation made them immediately report the incident to the nearest auxiliary police and the two suspects were then taken to meet the officers.
