Cops to arrest UMNO members who stormed Penang state assembly building

George Town police will be tracking down and arresting the group of UMNO members who forced their way into the Penang state legislative assembly building yesterday afternoon, to protest the remarks of Seri Delima assemblyman RSN Rayer of the DAP.

George Town ODPC Asst Comm Mior Faridaltrash Wahid said the incident is being investigated as a case of “house trespass”, which falls under Section 448 of the Penal Code.

Under the stipulation of Section 448, those found guilty of house trespass are subject to imprisonment of up to three years, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both.

The Malay Mail Online reports that at around 2pm yesterday, a group of UMNO members began gathering outside the state assembly building in George Town and proceeded to violently breach the gates to storm into the main hall, as shown in this video from The Star Online:

The group, comprised mainly of UMNO Youth members and reps from various BN-aligned NGOs, including Perkasa Penang, demanded an apology from assemblyman Rayer, who had allegedly said “UMNO celaka” (“damn UMNO”) while debating the Penang Governor’s speech on Tuesday.

Rayer was not in attendance at the state assembly building yesterday.

Security personnel then tried to get the protesters to leave the hall, but they remained until being persuaded to by assembly officials.

The protesters resumed their demonstration outside the gates of  the assembly building, insisting that Rayer come out and apologise.
