The police officer taken hostage by armed gunmen after the attack on a Mabul Island resort on Saturday which left another officer dead is still alive, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

Konstabel Zakiah Aleip, who had not been heard from since his abduction on Saturday night, called his wife last night saying he was alright.

“He called his wife (Sharifah Erna Berson) last night saying that he is okay except that he is with some people,” said IGP Khalid to The Star Online

Khalid added that police have a rough idea of the identity of the men involved in the attack.

Zakiah’s partner, Korporal Abdul Rajah Jamuan, 32, was shot dead in the attack on the Mabul Water Bungalows Resort. He was buried with full honours today.
