Cop seriously injured after Mat Rempit rammed into him

In a desperate attempt to escape a road block, a Mat Rempit rammed into a member of the Police Volunteer Reserve, seriously injuring him in the process.

Kota Setar district police chief Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin told The Star Online that the incident happened at a traffic light junction in Alor Star during Ops Samseng Jalanan at 3.10am on Friday.

“The motorcyclist was trying to escape when he hit my men. Kons Muhammad Annas Ikmal Mior Arif Ariffin suffered a fracture on his left leg and sustained facial injuries.

“He has been warded at the Sulta­nah Bahiyah Hospital,” he was quoted as saying.

The Mat Rempit, a 17-year-old youth from Felda Bukit Tangga, had been arrested and will be remanded for three days, said ACP Mohd Rozi.

ACP Mohd Rozi told the news portal that a total of 24 policemen, inclu­ding eight police volunteers and two officers from the narcotics department, took part in the operation.
