Cop ketum crew busted spending Friday afternoon at juice den to ‘de-stress’

Police raided a Kepong ketum (stimulant leaf native to Southeast Asia) juice den, only to find nine of their own fellow officers on the premises, sitting on sundry couches. The stimulant is banned in Malaysia.

The arrested cops, aged between 26 and 36, were among 15 nabbed during the Friday afternoon raid.

After being arrested the policemen told investigators that they had been driven to drink the juice due to “stress,” which might actually be the universal reason that everyone, everywhere, decides to do drugs.

The ketum krew were hauled into Desa Jaya police station, and all underwent urine tests.

The owner of the den is a 22-year-old man from Kedah, who admitted to police that he both bought, and processed the leaves to turn them into juice to sell to the public. He bought his leaf supplies at RM30-RM40 (US$7-10) for a kilo, and would sell it on for RM18 (US$4.35) per 1.5-liter bottle.

Police seized 39 liters of ketum in 26 bottles, and with that a flow of de-stress juicy juice.
