A 60-year old construction worker drowned as the excavator he was working on slipped into a mining pool in Malim Nawar, Perak.
The body of the construction worker, Loo Yok Ben, was found at 5pm yesterday, about seven hours after the accident that pulled him down into the pool.
The Star Online reports that Kampar Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Yamin Naib said the deceased was operating the excavator on the banks of the Lombong Itik Kongsi 8 mining pool when the ground underneath the excavator gave way. This caused the machine, along with Loo, to plunge into the 6 metre deep pool.
Yamin added that at the time of the accident, Loo was alone at the site, as his co-workers had left the premises to buy food.
A security guard at the site alerted the department after he failed to locate Loo and the excavator.
The body has been sent to the Kampar Hospital for a post-mortem.
The mining pool was the scene of another death just last week, after a man drowned when his fishing boat sank in it.
