Massive construction crane minutes from KLCC collapses, stop-work notice issued at site

A crane at the site of a 44-storey building construction zone collapsed at 1:00pm yesterday in Kampung Baru, minutes from KLCC, injuring three.

When the incident occurred, a worker had been handling the crane and it subsequently collapsed and crashed atop a vehicle outside the site.

The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) has now issued a stop-work notice on the construction activities at the soon-to-be residential apartment site.

Bystanders were hurt while fleeing the accident: one woman in her 30s fell and injured her shoulder while running away from debris, and an elderly gentleman and worker at the site also sustained minor injuries. All three were taken to hospital.

DOSH is taking the matter very seriously and added in a statement that accidents involving the public and workers will receive their thorough review.
