Entertainer makes apology after referring to The Prophet as ‘che mat’

Iqram Dinzly, a local entertainer whose flamboyant antics include singing, dancing, and even chiding his social media followers, has made a public apology for referring to the Prophet Muhammad as “che mat” on live television. “Che mat” being a casual term used to reference a mate, and not used with something as sacrosanct as The Prophet.

He called the incident “a slip of the tongue.”

Iqram is as well-known for his acting on Dunia Baru, as he is for his antics on social media via Instagram.

The 36-year-old maintains that he had no intention of insulting or making for of the Prophet on Melodi, a popular variety show on the nation’s most widely viewed channel TV3.

Speaking to Sinar Harian, he told them that leading up to the television gaffe, he had slept badly, and had a tire puncture, among other issues.

Iqram’s reasons for his own short-comings run parallel to the same excuses one might get from errant Uber drivers.

The comedian said that all professionalism went out the window, and that he was kelam-kabut (all over the place). “Che Mat” slipped out, but he points out that he quickly corrected it to Prophet Muhammad.

He said it was “up to everyone” on whether they wanted to accept his apology.

His recent social media posts have been a smattering of photos of bananas, along with posts acknowledging religious atonement.

The controversial incident occurred during a January 7 recording, and was widely criticized by the public, including Perak mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria.
