Classes at Sungai Petani school interrupted due to bomb hoax

Now, these students have a real legit reason to skip class.

A school in Sungai Petani was forced to suspend classes on Thursday after receiving a bomb threat.

According to The New Straits Times, a teacher at SMK Bakar Arang reportedly alerted the authorities at around 12.30pm after a woman claimed that there was a bomb in the school.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Md Zukir Isa told the daily that the Bomb Disposal Unit and the Canine Unit (K-9) immediately rushed to the school.

“According to the teacher, one of her colleagues received a call from a woman who claimed that an explosive device had been placed in the school.

“Following a thorough inspection by the units, however, no explosive was found,” ACP Md Zukir was quoted as saying.

He also told the daily that students and teachers of the school were ordered to assemble at the school field for about an hour and a half as the the Bomb Disposal Unit inspect the school grounds.

The school’s principal has reportedly lodged a police report, and the case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code, ACP Md Zukir added.
