Civil servants get only 30min break time during Ramadhan

Civil servants will see their break time reduced to 30 minutes during the month of Ramadhan, Bernama reported.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa was quoted by the news agency as saying that the government has agreed to reduce the break time for public servants.

“This step was taken to allow them to take advantage of the holy month of Ramadan and perform their religious obligations,” Ali told Bernama in a statement.

The new staggered working hours (WBB) will be added into the current timetable at all federal government agencies, Ali was further quoted as saying.

The office hours for several states – Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya), Selangor, Perak, Penang, Perlis, Pahang, Negri Sembilan and Malacca – would be from 7.30am to 5pm, while the break would be from 1pm to 1.30pm (Monday to Thursday) and 12.30pm to 2.30pm (Friday).

For other states – namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor, Kedah, Sabah, Labuan and Sarawak – the timetable could be checked through Circular No.1 of 2016, which will be uploaded on the Public Service Department (PSD) portal
