Two more Malaysians — a civil servant and a housewife — have been arrested over suspected militant activities linked to the violent Islamic State (IS) group.
The civil servant, a 29-year-old man from Sabah was caught on March 19 as he returned from abroad holding an illegally-gained passport from a neighbouring country.
“The suspect abandoned his duties in December 2012 and had gone to a neighbouring country to participate in militant activities before flying to Syria. He returned with the intention of recruiting more militants for the IS,” Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said in a statement released on the police’s Facebook page.
“He is also linked to another Malaysian militant in Syria,” Khalid added.
The 28-year-old housewife, meanwhile, ended up arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as she attempted to make her way to a neighbouring country before jetting off to Syria.
These arrests bring the total number of Malaysians caught for IS-linked activities to almost 70 since last year.
Those with information on such activities are urged to contact the police station nearest to you or call the federal police’s counter-terrorism division at 03-2266 7010 or 011-2104 6850. Or, email CTD.E8M@gmail.com.
