A chemical gas leak at a Penang-area school resulted in 17 students needing medical attention, and another 70 affected, after the incident occurred at a science laboratory in SMK Bayan Lepas.
Fire and Rescue arrived to the scene as soon as an emergency call was made, and workers were able to administer oxygen to the affected teens. Following the morning incident, students were evacuated from the premises as a precaution.
A spokesperson for Fire and Rescue told media that an emergency situation had occurred at the school:
“Some of the students were said to have inhaled the airborne vapors and we are trying to determine the type of chemical.”
