KL police set up a roadblock at the Jalan Duta toll plaza on Sunday to control interstate traffic, but little did they know that a fluffy surprise was waiting for them.
Police said they had heard the sound of a cat from underneath a car at the roadblock and found the animal trapped. The feline was rescued minutes later by emergency responders at the scene.
“We realized that a cat was trapped in the engine of the car, so we rescued it,” Superintendent Bakri Zainal Abidin had said. He joked that the cat had attempted to cross state borders, which is prohibited under the ongoing Conditional Movement Control Order.
Staff from Plus Highway, Royal Malaysia Police and the Civil Defence Force were at the scene of the rescue. The feline, believed to belong to an owner as it was wearing a collar, was saved within 30 minutes and later taken to a nearby housing area.
The driver of the car where the cat was trapped said he thought the authorities were coming for him over traffic offenses. Clearly, that wasn’t the case.
“Kisah pagi raya..polis tahan igatkan aku buat salah, rupanya ada kucing dekat bonet depan kereta aku, hahahaha.. Alahaiii cik meow (Raya morning story. I was stopped by the police, thinking I’ve done something wrong, but actually there was a cat in my front bonnet, hahahaha. Oh dear, miss meow).”
