Tenaga Nasional Bhd, (TNB) will stop accepting payments in bank cheques for Telekom Malaysia, water and local utility bills at their payment counters and kiosks, beginning October 1.
TNB senior general manager (corporate affairs and communications) Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Amin said in a statement today that the move was due to the rising number of fraud cases involving cheques, as reported by the New Straits Times‘ Hashini Kavishtri.
“However, for the time being we still accept payment by cheque for TNB bills,” he added.
TNB clients would be required to write down thir 14-digit TNB account numbers behind their crossed cheque when making payments.
“The payment will only be valid once the cheque is cleared,” Mohd Aminuddin said.
Customers are advised to contact TNB customer care officers at TNB Careline 1300 88 5454 for further enquiries.
