Cartoonist Zunar released on police bail

Satire cartoonist Zunar — who was arrested on Tuesday for posting a tweet deemed seditious — has been released on police bail.

He was released at 10.45am from the Dang Wangi police station lock up, the New Straits Times reports.

Zunar or Zulkiflee SM Anwar Ulhaque had tweeted these words immediately after the Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Sodomy II guilty verdict was delivered at the Federal Court: “Followers (Barua-barua) in black robes were proud in delivering judgement. Reward by Mr Politician must be lavish”.

He was arrested at his home in Pantai Dalam at 9.30pm on Feb 10, the same day Anwar was sent to jail for five years.

Zunar has reportedly been picked to become a panellist at a United Nations (UN) forum on March 6.
