Social media influencer Carl Samsudin personally met with the homeless shelter resident he was accused of talking down to after critics told him to do so. But was he sincere about it? It’s anybody’s guess.
Carl, who runs a fashion business, posted a photo of him meeting with the 64-year-old resident, Uncle Hadi, of the homeless shelter at Jalan Pahang yesterday, along with a short video of his meeting at the shelter. He didn’t share the audio of their conversation.

Carl was joined by Yusuf Azmi, the president of the Semboyan Consumer Association Malaysia. Yusuf said that it was Carl who reached out to him to witness the public apology over his embarrassing behavior, and that he believed Carl had no intention to insult the homeless man.
“As human beings, we can never run away from mistakes,” he wrote on Instagram in Malay. Other than Yusuf, a camera crew was also there to document the visit, photos showed.
Carl sparked online outrage after a video of himself went viral online showing him donating RM50 (US$12) to the homeless man and asking whether he had regretted not working hard enough during his younger days. Carl was a guest speaker at the shelter for a motivation talk called “Change Your Life” that was attended by around 20 residents.
Carl then issued an apology on social media but was later told by Malaysians online to ask for forgiveness from the homeless man himself.
