Car plunges into irrigation canal, driver drowns

A man drowned after he reportedly lost control of the car he was driving and plunged into an irrigation canal along Jalan Lana Bulu in Jitra.

According to a report by The Star Online‘s GC Tan, a few villagers alerted the Fire and Rescue Department when they heard a loud crashing noise at 3.30am on Thursday.

The Department’s public relations officer Supt Nur Hafizah Muhammad Lukman told the news portal that they received the call at 3.39am. A fire engine, an emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) vehicle and a Mitsubishi Pajero utility vehicle arrived at the scene at 4.11am to carry out the search and rescue mission.

Supt Nur Hafizah said the team’s scuba team members found the body of the driver, indentified as 29-year-old Lim Keat Siong, at 7.55am.

His remains were reportedly handed over to the police and was later send to the Jitra Hospital mortuary.
