The results are in, and the country’s most expensive license plate issued this year in Perak, where registered vehicle license plates begin with the letter “A,” has been revealed.

AKU 1305 (a vague reference to “I am boss” if you pretend the 1 & 3 are a B, and the 5 is an S) had the most bids, with 49 car owners upping the ante for a chance to drive the vanity plates.

However, the most expensive went to AKU 1 (I am #1), whose lucky owner paid RM207,898 (US$50,000) for first place. On a license plate.

The Star reports AKU 1305 only managed to get up to RM20,000 (US$4,675), showing us that while they may be bos, they ain’t rich.

Perak Transport director Mohd Zawawi told a press conference that they had “thought the ‘Boss’ number plates, including 8055 and 805 would get the highest bid amount. We were quite surprised that it was not the case here.”

Bidding for golden numbers (1 to 10) starts at RM10,000 (US$2,335), while attractive and repetitive numbers go from RM2,000 (US$570). ‘Popular numbers,’ whatever that means, start at RM300 (US$70).

Zawawi says that the AKU series has proved incredibly popular, generating RM3.5 million (US$820,000) in revenue for the transportation department.

Last year’s record was AKK 1, which went for RM288,000 (US$70,000).

No word on how much it would cost me to get CIB 411, but I’m willing to start the bids at RM1,000.
