Car chase ends up in ravine, robber manages to escape

A suspected robber managed to escape from the cops after his car crashed into a ravine near Kota Kinabalu on Saturday.

According to a report by The Star Online, the suspect, who was driving a red four-wheel-drive vehicle, allegedly sped off when he saw a police patrol vehicle approaching on a hill at Kampung Mandap at 7.45am.

Kota Belud police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Abdullah told the online portal that the high-speed chase lasted more than 10 minutes before the suspect reportedly lost control of his car and crashed into a ravine near the Kota Belud-Tuaran border.

Before the police could reach him, the suspect managed to get out and escape into the nearby jungle, Mohd Zaidi said.

Mohd Zaidi added that upon further investigation, it was found that the suspect’s vehicle, which was bearing a fake number plate, was reported stolen in Tawau recently.

According to the news portal, a police patrol was dispatched to Kampung Mandap after receiving a call about a break-in there.
