Cabinet Reshuffle: Muhyiddin out, Zahid Hamidi in as Deputy Prime Minister

At a press conference in Putrajaya just minutes ago, Prime Minister Najib Razak announced that as part of a Cabinet reshuffle, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin would be replaced by Home Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid will retain his Home Ministry portfolio as he takes up the DPM post, which comes into effect tomorrow, July 29.

Earlier today it was announced that Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail was relinquished of his post effectively immediately, due to health reasons. He has been replaced by Mohamed Apandi Ali.

Speculation has been intense that Muhyiddin was on the way out since his repeated criticism of sovereign development fund 1MBD and Najib’s handling of the issue, culminating in remarks the former DPM made on Sunday night at a Cheras UMNO function.
