A tragic road accident late last night saw a bus carrying 43 contracted workers for MAS Cargo Complex skid off the road, and into a storm drain.

The deadly incident occurred in near the MAS Cargo Complex at KLIA, in Sepang, one hour outside of Kuala Lumpur.

Eleven have been reported dead, with 31-year-old Nepali national Jagarnath Singh Danuwar being the latest to be added to the list this morning after doctors at Putrajaya Hospital were unable to save him.

Reports have emerged that the bus was traveling to the Cargo Complex from the workers’ hostel in nearby Nilai at 11:10pm along Jalan S8 Pekeliling when the driver lost control and plunged into a 10-meter storm drain off the side of the road. Both he, and eight workers were pronounced dead at the scene, with dozens being taken to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.

Two more have since been pronounced dead.

As of noon today, nine of the injured passengers have been discharged, and sent home.

Fire and Rescue officials received a call of an accident approximately six minutes after the crash occurred, and went to the scene. Initially, they had to stabilize the precariously perched bus, and then worked to extract the victims from the tangled metal. Many parts of the bus needed to be cut in order to remove the injured parties, taking over an hour.

Those dead include nationals from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Indonesia, with one victim’s identity unknown. Many of them were quite young, still in their early 20s, when their lives were cut short.

Injured workers include more than one Malaysian national.

Police are now investigating the cause of the accident, with reports coming out this afternoon that the driver allegedly took the wrong turn going to the complex, exiting at too early from a nearby roundabout. Authorities are not yet sure if this played a role int he tragic turn of events.
