Nazir Razak, brother of Prime Minister Najib Razak and the chairman of the CIMB banking group, took a page from Nicki Minaj and Rihanna’s social media playbook today and fired a well-aimed shot at troubled sovereign development fund 1MDB … on Instagram.
The image he posted to his personal IG account depicted current 1MDB CEO Arul Kanda Kandasamy and the fund’s former CEO Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, flanking the headline “WANTED … BUT NOT AVAILABLE”.
Both Arul and Shahrol have asked for a postponement for their appearance before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, which was scheduled to interview them on 1MDB’s many alleged scandals this week. They cited being overseas on business matters as their reason for not being able to attend their scheduled hearings.
Nazir’s brother PM Najib also serves as Finance Minister, whose ministry wholly owns 1Malaysia Development Berhad. Najib also chairs the board of 1MDB’s advisers.
The Star Online reported yesterday that PAC chairperson Nur Jazlan Mohamed said in reference to both Arul and Shahrol’s request for postponement: “They requested 30 days … We may give them less.”
