Burglar, nicknamed “Toyol Gemuk”, beaten to a pulp after attempted Cheras break-in

A house burglar unceremoniously nicknamed “Toyol Gemuk” was given a savage beating by local residents after a foiled attempt to break into a home in Alam Damai, Cheras last night.

During the 9.30pm incident, the suspect and an accomplice was trying to sneak into a two-storey terrace house when neighbours noticed the break-in, prompting the two burglars to escape.

A police source told Harian Metro‘s Mohd Fadly Samsudin that the local residents gave chase and managed to apprehend the 39-year old Toyol Gemuk.

“Residents were so upset at the burglary attempt that they assaulted the suspect senseless, leaving a significant injury to the head.”

The police official added that the other burglar managed to escape in a car, along with a haul of RM5,000 in stolen cash.

Toyol Gemuk was rushed to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (PPUKM) for treatment.

He is reported to be in stable condition, and has been detained to assist in police investigations.

The case is being probed under Section 457 of the Penal Code for burglary.
