A video of a girl being violently bullied by her classmates is under police investigation.
The unidentified 12-year-old girl was kicked multiple times and had her hair pulled by her classmates at the stairwell of a housing block, the three-minute-long video showed. The police believed that the Sunday incident in Kelana Jaya was a result of one of them being jealous over the alleged victim’s relationship with the former’s foster brother.
“The victim lodged a police report claiming that she was attacked by a group of her classmates at the stairwell of a flat,” Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said yesterday. “She claims that one of the girls who attacked her was jealous over her relationship with the girl’s foster brother.”
In the clip, at least three others were confronting the victim. A girl in yellow could be seen pulling the victim’s hair aggressively, wrestling her to the ground, and kicking and stepping on her as the rest cheered on. Another person later jumped in to break up the fight.
The incident was said to be filmed by one of the suspects and subsequently shared on Instagram, police said.
The victim suffered injuries to her head and other parts of her body, police added. The case was being investigated as voluntarily causing hurt and was in the process of identifying the suspects.
“We also advise the public to refrain from circulating the video as the case is under investigation,” he said.
