Central police director of the Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (CCID) Amar Singh has called on blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin to return to Malaysia from his self-imposed exile, and lodge a report over his recent claims that investigators stole over RM40 million (US$10 million) when raiding several properties linked to former Prime Minister Najib Razak.
“First of all, I will not pay heed to such a writer, who is more like a mercenary, making frivolous and vexatious accusations against the police,” Amar dismissively said today.
He also asked for evidence to support Raja Petra’s claims that of the RM160 million (US$40 million) seized from Najib’s properties, only RM116.7 million made it back to police custody. If indeed there was substantiated reason for the claims, the blogger need not “hide being an iron curtain,” he added.
Amar did remind him that there would be consequences if the blogger’s claims turned out to be false.
Raja Petra Kamarudin is a popular Malaysian blogger who currently resides in Manchester, England. An editor who runs the Malaysia Today website, he had at times, found himself on the wrong side of the law during the previous administration for his commentary and reporting. Two years ago, he was at odds with PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim, calling out his indecisiveness when it came to internal party issues, and declaring that the party would eventually disintegrate.
