BREAKING: Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak has passed away at 86

Sultan Azlan Shah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Yusuf Izzuddin Shah of Perak has passed away at the age of 86 at 1.30pm, ending his 30 year reign of the state and an illustrious life in the public eye.

The announcement of his death was delivered by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir at 3.45pm over a special news bulletin broadcast over Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) channels. 

Before his ascension to the throne, His Royal Highness practiced law, and was elevated to the High Court in 1965 to become, at 37, the youngest judge appointed in the Commonwealth. He also served as Chief Justic of Malaya and Lord President of the Federal Court of Malaysia. He ascended to the throne of  Perak in 1984, and in 1989 rose to become Malaysia’s ninth Yang di-Pertuan Agong. 

His Royal Highness leaves behind the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Bainun, and three children.
