Breaking Bad, la: Penang chemist moonlights as drug dealer, gets busted by the cops

Well, slap a hat on the man’s head and call him Heisenberg, why don’t you?

A 48-year old chemist in Penang applied his skills in the lab in the worst way possible, turning into a drug dealer – and he was arrested for allegedly distributing heroin and methamphetamines.

The New Straits Times Online‘s Phuah Ken Lin reports that the suspect was apprehended by police outside an apartment in Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth, following information supplied by the public.

The real-life Breaking Bad character caved after he was arrested, and led the police to his car and apartment unit, where his nefarious product was found.

Police seized three kilogrammes of heroin, 6.8 kilos of meth, 11 kilos of caffeine. The items seized were valued at RM60,000, and were intended to be distributed throughout Penang.

“He has chemistry expertise but opted to misuse his skills to deal in drugs,” Penang Narcotics CID chief Supt Guan Bang Kang said.

The suspect was detained on Sunday, and would remain in remand until this Saturday to aid in investigations. He is likely to be charged under Section 39B (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
