Yesterday, the Aerotrain at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, ferrying passengers from terminals to arrival hall, experienced a breakdown. This is hardly headline news, considering we live in an imperfect world, one where things break down.
What came as a surprise to Malaysia Airports (MAHB), the body that oversees the airport, was that instead of heeding their warning to stay on the train until recovery units came, many passengers instead pried open the doors, and began walking along the track toward their gates.
There’s reckless, and then there’s reckless. This, is decidedly the latter.
Videos and images of passengers walking the tracks made their rounds on social media, after service was disrupted yesterday at around 6:30pm.
Malaysian Airports managing director, Datuk Badilsham Ghazali told The Sun that MAHB is “very concerned that some passengers ignored safety announcements … to remain on board, but instead pried open the door to disembark midway.”
Yep, sounds like cause for concern for us, too.
He assures passengers that recovery would have gotten them to their gates in time. Or at the very least, we might add, ALIVE.
He added that there is a standby driver to manually drive the train, in these situations, as well as shuttle buses.
Guys, I think it’s time that people outside New York City learn about the lore of “the third rail.”
It’s real y’all. I once saw it kill a squirrel.
