Break out the crayons: Doodle 4 Google lands in Malaysia

Google has announced it’s brought its “Doodle 4 Google” competition to Malaysia, which welcomes school students to showcase their uniquely Malaysian creativity, originality and sense of fun by submitting proposed doodles for Google Malaysia’s landing page.

In conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014, Google has themed this first Doodle 4 Google competition “Malaysia to me is …”. The competition is open for four age categories: ages 7-9, 10-12, 13-15 and 16-17.

Google Malaysia country manager Sajith Sivanandran told Bernama the theme includes anything about culture, diversity, people, food, landmarks, and everything students feel best represents Malaysia, with imagination and creativity as te top priority.

“Google wants students to consider what they appreciate about Malaysia and what makes them love this country, most of all we want students to have fun,” he said.

To encourage participation, Google will carry out nationwide roadshows beginning in May, to reach out to even rural areas.

Googlers and expert judges will shortlist the five best doodlers in each category, while Malaysians can decide on the eventual winners on a date to be announced later at google.com.my/doodle4google.

The selected doodles will be sent to Google headquarters in US, and the winner will be decided there, with the winning creation to be featured on google Malaysia’s homepage on Malaysia Day, Sept 16.

There will be a closed session to announce the winners on Sept 8.

“People like to visit our homepage to see the next potential doodlers, but this event is more than that, it is about the lifeblood and future of our country, our children,” said Sajith.

DiGi is providing gifts and prizes, while more corporate partners will be announced later by Google.
