It was supposed to be a happy second day of Hari Raya for a 12-year-old boy, but it quickly turned tragic as both his parents were killed in a four-vehicle pile-up on Thursday.
According to The Star Online, the deadly accident happened at the 24.5km mark of the Jalan Sungai Rengit-Kota Tinggi highway at around 9.40am.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Rahmat Othman told the news portal that the boy was traveling with his family – his father Abdullah Asri, 60, and his mother Mariyatul Batang, 51 – in a Toyota Vios heading to Kota Tinggi for Hari Raya visit when a Nissan Grand Livina, which was on the opposite lane, lost control and veered into their path.
Unable to stop in time, the Vios reportedly crashed head on with the Grand Livina. A Proton Preve and a Toyota Avanza travelling behind then crashed into the pile-up.
According to Supt Rahmat, both Abdullah and Mariyatul were killed on the spot due to severe head injuries while the boy was severely injured.
The drivers of the Grand Livina and Avanza, meanwhile, also reportedly suffered serious injuries. The driver of the Proton Preve was unhurt.
