Boulder ‘the size of a van’ rolls down hill, damages two cars

A massive boulder weighing an estimated 20-tonnes, reportedly crashed into two cars in George Town, Penang yesterday.

According to the New Straits Times, two cars were damaged when the boulder rolled off a hillside onto the road at Jalan Tun Sardon around 1pm.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman was quoted as describing the boulder to be ‘the size of a van’.

“The left side of one of car, a Volkswagen, was crushed but the driver escaped unscathed. The other car, a Proton Persona, was only hit in the rear window with a stone fragment. The driver was also unhurt,” the spokesman was quoted as saying.

Authorities have cleared the area of any further danger, the NST reported.
