When a member of the public spotted a suspicious-looking bag underneath a car, he did not take any chances and alerted the police.
Kuching police chief Asst Comm Abang Ahmad Abang Julai told The Star Online that the police received a call from a civilian on Monday afternoon, claiming that he spotted a bag underneath a vehicle at Medan Hamidah in Kuching, Sarawak.
Fearing that it was an explosive device, a bomb disposal unit was reportedly dispatched to the scene.
“The car owner confirmed that the bag did not belong to him. As a safety precaution, we called in the bomb disposal unit to check it,” ACP Abang Ahmad was quoted as saying.
As it turns out, it was a false alarm as the bag turned out to be just that; a bag.
This was the second bomb scare case in less than a week; last Wednesday, a misplaced bag full of clothes caused quite a scene in the heart of Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur.
